ABOUT ME
Locally, I have exhibited my paintings at Workhouse Arts Center, Falls Church Arts, and the PEPCO Edison Gallery. I currently teach elementary Art classes at a school in Vienna, Virginia. I enjoy traveling the world and going on street art tours to learn more about the cities that I visit. This is a photo of me on Graffiti Street in Ghent, Belgium. The bright layers of colors, text, and scrawling doodles often found in graffiti inspire parts of my painting process.
My mixed-media process combines careful observation of subjects from nature with a whimsical, graphic joy. I begin each work of art with a realistic acrylic painting of a plant, animal, person, or insect. Before the piece becomes too representational, I begin to draw, stitch, or stamp on top of the canvas. These accents add a playful, handcrafted feeling to my work. I am influenced by the trash to treasure movement and often upcycle aluminum cans by cutting them into shapes and attaching them to my canvases. The aluminum can pieces, metallic paint, glitter, beads, and/or rhinestones ensure that all of my artworks sparkle. My art is intended for shiny, happy nature enthusiasts who enjoy the juxtaposition of realism and fantasy.
Boucans are the bouquets that you CAN keep forever! My sister and I make colorful bouquets of flowers out of aluminum cans. Click on this link below to visit our etsy shop!
I have an MFA in Illustration from SCAD. Here is a link to my professional illustration site.
